Joseph E. Barki, III- Brooke County Prosecuting Attorney

            Joe Barki was elected Prosecuting Attorney of Brooke County in November of 2012, beginning his term of office January 1st, 2013.  Prior to being elected prosecutor, Joe served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Brooke County for more than 10 years, with additional prosecutorial experience having been gained as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Ohio and Hancock Counties, and further as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia.  In total, Joe has more than 14 years’ experience prosecuting criminal cases in state and federal court, having tried more than 50 cases, including numerous serious offenses such a drug distribution, sexual assault and murder.  During his career Joe has been responsible for the conviction of more than 400 felons and has made it his life’s career to serve as a prosecuting attorney, helping to protect the citizens of Brooke County and the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia.

Joe began his career in law enforcement as a West Virginia State Trooper, graduating from the State Police Academy in 1997, and being stationed in Martinsburg, West Virginia before leaving the State Police to attend law school.  Prior to beginning his career as a prosecutor, Joe attended Widener Law School in Wilmington, Delaware where he graduated 9th in his class of 206, having been awarded the Alexander V. Sarcone Award for Criminal Law, as well as being awarded an Order of Barristers and serving as a Board Member of the Moot Court Honor Society. Joe is also a graduate of Bethany College, where he graduated with honors, earning double degrees in Political Science and Psychology.

Joe was born and raised in Windsor Heights and is a graduate of Brooke High School.  He has been married for 15 years to his wife, Kelly, and they are raising their 3 children, ages 10, 8, and 4.
